For a while now, it feels like we’ve collectively leaned into a very polished, algorithmic aesthetic. Everything has been so clean and optimized that it started to feel a little untouchable. But lately, I’m noticing a shift toward something much more exciting. We’re starting to embrace texture, soul, and a sense of "the human hand" in the digital world, and honestly, it’s about time.

The big theme for 2026 is Digital Tactility. We’re moving into an era where digital spaces feel less like they were generated by a computer and more like they were crafted with intention. Here are the 10 trends I’m keeping a close eye on as we move toward a more soulful way of designing.

1. Tactile Maximalism (The "Squishy" UI) Pinterest Board

While flat design was great for clarity, we’re now seeing a move toward interfaces that look like you could actually reach out and touch them. This "squishy" aesthetic uses jelly-like textures and claymorphism to make buttons feel more inviting. It’s a playful way to add a sense of physical reward to our digital clicks, making our screens feel a little more like the real world.

2. Kinetic Typography Pinterest Board

Static text is getting a serious glow-up. Headlines are starting to stretch, melt, or bounce as you scroll, turning the message itself into a piece of moving art. It’s a fun, energetic way to capture attention quickly, ensuring that a brand’s voice feels alive rather than just sitting still on a page.

3. Bento Grids 2.0 (The Remix) Pinterest Board Pinterest Board

The organized "boxy" look we’ve seen recently is becoming much more expressive. The new Bento Grid is less about rigid lines and more about storytelling, mixing video loops and 3D objects in asymmetrical ways. It’s a great way to show off a brand’s personality in a layout that feels more like a curated mood board than a standard template.

4. Eco-Brutalism Pinterest Board

I love this trend because it’s sustainability with a real point of view. Eco-Brutalism uses raw, unpolished aesthetics (think earthy tones and bold, honest fonts) paired with lightweight coding that helps reduce a site’s energy use. It’s a "less is more" approach that feels incredibly purposeful and modern without being overly precious.

5. The "Imperfect" AI Layer Pinterest Board

Instead of letting AI have the final word, designers are now using it as a starting point and then adding a human touch. We’re seeing people intentionally add grain, hand-drawn scribbles, or "glitchy" textures to AI-generated images. It’s a beautiful way to reclaim the creative process and make sure the final result feels authentic and unique.

6. Retro-Futurism (Y3K) Pinterest Board

We’re moving past 90s nostalgia and looking further ahead with a "Y3K" aesthetic. Think liquid metals, iridescent chrome, and a very sleek, visionary vibe. This look feels fast and optimistic, which is perfect for brands that want to position themselves as forward-thinking and tech-savvy.

7. Hyper-Personalized UI (Spotify Wrapped, Netflix Homepage Suggestions, Amazon Home, Starbucks Personalized App Ordering)

Technology is getting much more empathetic. We’re starting to see apps that shift their entire look based on your local weather, the time of day, or even your current vibe. It’s a thoughtful way to make an interface "read the room," so the technology feels less like a tool and more like a helpful companion.

8. Scrapbook & Collage Pinterest Board

As a friendly alternative to corporate minimalism, the scrapbook style uses paper textures and cut-out photography to create a D.I.Y. feel. It’s a very approachable look that adds a bit of grassroots character and warmth to a digital space, reminding us that there are real people behind the brand.

9. Data Scrollytelling Pinterest Board

Data doesn't have to be dry! Interactive journeys where charts and maps build themselves as you scroll are turning statistics into a narrative. It’s an engaging way to make complex ideas feel clear and impactful, letting the user experience the information in real-time.

10. Spatial Design (The Z-Axis) Pinterest Board

With new tech making its way into our daily routines, we’re finally designing with more depth in mind. Even on our phones, we’re seeing "glassmorphism" and layered elements that create a real sense of space. It helps guide the eye to the most important info by literally bringing it "closer" to the user.

The Bottom Line: 2026 is shaping up to be a year filled with texture, depth, and a lot of heart. We’re moving into an era where digital spaces feel a lot more human, and I couldn't be more excited to see what we build together. Let’s go make something real!
