copywriting for web

Writing content for your website may seem simple. After all, you're the expert on your business. How hard could it be to describe that on your website? Before you dive into copywriting, there are a few tips you should keep in mind in order to make your website's content the best it can be.

Write for your audience
It's important to identify who your audience is in order to determine how to write about yourself and the products you offer. Make sure you are writing for your average customer and not using hard-to-understand industry terms.

Keep it simple
We know you could say a lot about your business, but it's best to keep it short and sweet when possible. Most people have very short attention spans and prefer not to read large chunks of content, so get to the point quickly.

A recent study backed this up by revealing most people only have an 8-second attention span and read an average 25% of words on a web page.

Make it easy to scan
Due to the aforementioned attention spans, consumers like to scan a page to get the general idea of what it says. Use things like headers and bullets to call out various sections of the copy. Be thoughtful about your sections and headers to make sure the content aligns.

Use a call-to-action
When possible, make it obvious what you want a person to do on your website. Is your end-goal for them to send an email, make a call, or fill out a form? Make those call-to-actions stand out on the page! Your web visitors shouldn't have to hunt for contact information.
