Your social media platforms are not static entities. Like most things in life, they need to be spruced up every once in awhile. If your business is in a rut with your social media presence or has just been flat-out neglecting them, here are a few ways to liven things up.

Let's start with the big guy -- Facebook.

Chances are your business (like  a lot of other businesses) is on Facebook. You're probably even posting on a regular basis. But it's never a bad idea to shake things up every once in awhile. If things are getting a bit stale on your company's Facebook page, try these few suggestions.

1. Videos. Instead of the same old, same old status update, mix things up by posting a short video on your page. There are multiple social networks you can use to create your videos (Vine, Instagram and YouTube are a few). Check out this blog post for some ideas on what to share in your video.

2. Clean up your News Feed. When you sign into Facebook, your News Feed is one of the first things you see. By hiding or unfollowing users that are irrelevant to your business and following Facebook pages that are, you can turn your News Feed into a curated feed filled with content that is relevant to your business. Feel free to share stories from your News Feed that you think are appealing and relevant to your business. This is a great way to present a variety of content to your followers.

3. Follow other companies that are similar to your own. It's always a good idea to keep a close eye on your competition. Check out some of the things they are doing and evaluate whether or not they're working. Some of those same strategies just might work for you too!

4. Interact! If there's a company you regularly do business with, follow them on Facebook and interact with them. When appropriate, tag them in your posts or share content from their page. By doing this, you'll be showing your fans the types of businesses and individuals you deal with. Those businesses may also be inclined to return the favor which will expose all of their followers to your page, potentially leading to more page Likes for you!

5.Update.Has your business' hours changed? Has your office moved? Is your web address still the same? Make sure the information you're presenting to your fans is as up-to-date as possible.

Next up, Pinterest!

If this digital pinboard is a part of your business's marketing strategy, make sure you're keeping it fresh, fun and relevant. If your business is not on Pinterest yet, you might want to check out this post.

1. Rearrange your boards. By default, Pinterest places your newest boards at the bottom of the page. This isn't always ideal. If you've launched a new line of products and are featuring them on Pinterest, you want them to be front and center when people visit your page. To reposition a board, just click and drag the board to where you want it on the page.

2. Update your cover photos. The first image you pin to a board automatically becomes the cover photo. Unfortunately, this photo may not be the most compelling. Changing the cover photos on your boards is a simple, but effective way to freshen up your Pinterest account.

3. Delete if necessary. Some of your boards may no longer be relevant to your purpose on Pinterest. Or maybe you've created a more appropriate board to categorize your pins. Don't be afraid to delete boards if need be.

Last but not least, Twitter.

With 200 million active users generating 400 million tweets a day, Twitter has become harder and harder for businesses to ignore. Here are two ideas to help liven up your business's Twitter account.

1. Unfollow. It may seem odd to unfollow someone, but it can be beneficial. Take a look at the people and businesses you are following on Twitter. If they don't add anything of value to your Twitter feed, it may be time to let them go.

2. Upload a header photo. You probably have your business's logo or a relevant photo as your profile picture, but what about a custom header photo? By uploading a header photo that represents your business and brand, Twitter users will be able to recognize your brand faster on Twitter. Finally, have you joined any other social media networks lately? Make sure they are represented on your website, blog, email signature, etc.

Social media has become a must for businesses today, but just having a presence on social media isn't enough. Make sure you're keeping your pages as up-to-date and engaging as possible. And remember...we're always here to help if you need us!
