Got a minute? Check out our quick update on what's happening in the industry.

Facebook’s “Our Story”
Facebook has added a new section called “Our Story” to the right-hand column of business profiles. It gives businesses the ability to add an additional picture and highlight the company’s story on the home page. When this update went live, Facebook automatically chose a picture for the Story that performed well in the past,  but feel free to update it as you see fit.

Our Take:

  • Having the ability to access a company’s story on the home page is great!
  • The update allows you to have another image, other than the header, to show who you are as a company and that is always important.

Social Media Study
A recent study by Bustle revealed a not-so-surprising truth: social media, particularly Instagram, is the most effective way to connect with millennial women. The study polled 1,000 women in the United States between the ages of 18 and 34. 81% of the women said social media is the most effective way to reach them and 40% said Instagram is the best and most effective social media outlet to connect.

Our Take:

  • Like we said earlier, the results of this study aren’t very surprising but it further confirms the fact that social media is a powerful platform for brands who are trying to reach a millennial-based audience.
  • We hope this reinforces the notion that social media should not be considered a fun past-time, but rather an important marketing tool for brands. Whether you know it or not, potential customers are using your social media profiles to form opinions of your brand.

Instagram Hashtags
Instagram has announced that users can now follow specific hashtags in addition to profiles. Any posts using those hashtags will now appear in your main feed, right alongside the posts of people you follow. Instagram will be using an algorithm to filter the best of the hashtags into your feed, since showing every single post with a particular hashtag would be impossible.

Our Take:

  • This new feature highlights the importance of hashtags on social media, especially Instagram, and shows how much social media users employ them to find content that interests them.
  • We can see this feature coming in handy if you’re hosting an event, giveaway, contest, or anything that uses a particular hashtag. By encouraging your followers to follow the hashtag, they’ll receive the posts directly in their feed without having to go searching for the hashtag themselves.
