Got a minute? Check out our quick update on what’s happening in the industry.

Instagram
Instagram Stories is upping the incentive for advertisers by tripling the number of posts in a Story ad. Instead of the standard one photo or video, the new “carousel ads” are made up of three consecutive photos or videos. The new expanded format is not yet available to all advertisers.

Our Take:

  • As Instagram Stories grows in popularity with users, it’s also becoming more popular among advertisers seeking to reach a younger audience.
  • This expanded format is great for brands who feel limited by the 15-second minimum and want to get more creative in their advertising.
  • The new ad format fits more seamlessly into Stories, making the ads feel more native to the platform than they did before. We’ll be keeping an eye to see if Instagram starts rolling this feature out to all advertisers in the future.

Hootsuite
If you use Hootsuite to schedule social media posts, you’re in luck! Instagram has reworked their API to enable third party tools, like Hootsuite, to schedule and publish posts directly on Instagram. According to Hootsuite, Instagram scheduling and publishing has been their most requested update.

Our Take:

  • This feature makes it a lot easier for brands and marketers to efficiently run their Instagram accounts. We’ve been waiting for this feature forever!
  • Although a welcome update, there are still some restrictions with Hootsuite scheduling. For example, you cannot edit your photos directly in Hootsuite nor can you include links in your scheduled captions. Brands will have to be careful to stay true to the nature of Instagram even with the added ease of advance scheduling.
