AI SEO
What is AI SEO (AI Search Engine Optimization)?
AI SEO is the practice of optimizing your brand’s (or business’s) content and digital presence so it can get mentioned, cited, and recommended by AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews.
How is AI SEO different than SEO?
AI SEO optimizes for AI-generated answers with the goal of your business being cited and recommended; SEO (Search Engine Optimization) optimizes for search engines, like Google, with the goal of getting clicks to your website.
Why does my brand need to show up in AI prompt responses?
Your business needs to show up in AI prompt responses because that is how people are researching products and services. If your business isn’t included in those responses, your competitors could be! They might not ever visit your website, but they can still reach out based on the research they did through ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.
Is AI SEO replacing SEO, or do I need both?
We recommend having an SEO and AI SEO strategy for your business. SEO isn’t going anywhere for the time being, and it’s actually a solid foundation of a good AI SEO strategy. SEO will continue to drive traffic through traditional search, and AI SEO will have you covered on AI platforms.
What is the difference in AI SEO, GEO, and AEO?
Honestly, at this stage of AI SEO, it’s a bit like the wild west. People use AI SEO, GEO (Generative Engine Optimization), and AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) interchangeably. However, they do all have their own specific meanings.
- AI SEO is the practice of optimizing a brand’s content and digital presence to perform well across every AI-influenced surface, such as AI overviews, LLMS, chat assistants, etc. Essentially, it’s the parent category over GEO and AEO.
- GEO is the practice of structuring content so that generative AI platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc. select it, cite it, and reference it when providing an answer.
- AEO is the practice of formatting content to directly answer specific questions, so AI platforms can easily gather information to answer a user’s question.
